Speech Delay

So bump is now 4 and he is having problems with his speech I'm at the point now where I'm thinking did I do something wrong? will he ever talk? and I just don't know the answers which is frustrating me so I can only imagine how frustrating it is for him.

His speech started off fine the usual mama, dad, dog etc then it just seemed to stop and no more progress was made and I was too worried at first because my eldest daughter who's almost 20 now didn't really say all that much until she started nursery.

By the time it came to his 2 year review I was slightly concerned and spoke with the health visitor about it and was referred to speech therapy, we waited a while for that and they only saw him once where the speech therapist sat and played with him and gave me things to do at home with him.

We did attempt for him to start nursery last April but it didn't go too well and he didn't go anymore, he is quite a handful and they wouldn't let him stay the whole session which I thought unfair and they said he wont do tidy up time so has to leave earlier than everyone else.  Its a school nursery and part of the school where his sisters go.  when it came to September I wasn't sure about him going again but he really enjoys it and this time they've been great with helping him one of the learning support assistants stays with him and she's great he loves her. also there is speech therapist that works with the school that he sees every week. Me and his dad were asked to sign a form for a SEN assessment and were not sure whether he will be ready for starting reception in September (he's also not potty trained which I will blog about too) so will see what happens with that.

As for his progress he can sing practically any nursery rhyme, says the alphabet, counts to 20 and will say some single words, names of tv characters he likes etc but he wont ask for anything like food or a drink. He talks a lot but nothing you can really understand and it frustrates him that you cant understand.

I don't have any one to talk to about it apart from his dad and school so it would be great tto hear from anyone who is or has gone threw similar. Has anyone used flashcards to help with speech?

Please feel free to comment below, email or tweet me would be lovely to hear from you.

  1. Sounds obvious but have you had his hearing checked? I struggled as a kid then they found I had glue ear and was lipreading. Adenoids were removed and I was fine. Hope you get him sorted.

  4. Hope you can get this sorted because it is so frustrating for them. If you are going to use flash cards then let him "test" you as well and make a game of it - be sure to make mistakes so he has an opportunity to correct you.

  6. I used to talk to my son constantly in the hope of him saying more than yes, no and very simple speech. Everyone seemed to be saying that he didn't speak much and I was getting really worried. Then one day in one of my mother's weekly visits, she couldn't believe the change in him. He seemed to go from hardly speaking to full blown conversations, saying words I didn't even know he knew. Your son may just be a lazy talker as my GP called my son, so stop being a worrier as my GP called me x

Canvas Design UK Review & Giveaway

I was made and sent a Canvas print of my choice by Canvas Designs uk to review.  You can view their site here http://www.canvasdesign.co.uk/ I was so excited to be reviewing Canvas Design UK as I love Canvas pictures but didn't actually own one before with personal photos on, I have always wanted to get one done but just not got around to it and actually thought that they were very expensive.  However I discovered at Canvas Designs UK their prices start from just £5.99 with free 48 hour delivery  and if you use the code BLOG15 at the check out you can get a 15% discount too. I originally chose a picture of my 3 girls playing football in the park but they had said as they were moving in the picture that it would come out blurry, I just couldn't decide on another picture as I have so many photos the lovely Loren at Canvas Designs suggested I send here a variety of photos and she would make a montage, she then sent me 5 different montage designs of my photos to choose
